Built to stand with you, not just advise you

Setia Bina was founded on a simple idea: small business owners deserve a consultant who stays the course, speaks plainly, and has no interest in telling them what they want to hear.

Our Story

How Setia Bina came to be

Setia Bina started in 2014 when Ahmad Farid, a former operations manager with fifteen years in Johor's manufacturing and services sectors, began taking on informal advisory work for neighbours and acquaintances running small businesses. What he found, again and again, was that owners did not lack information. They lacked someone who would sit with them and think things through — slowly, without a hidden agenda.

The name Setia Bina means, loosely, to build faithfully. That captures what we try to do. We are not in the business of fast answers or big declarations. We look at what is actually in front of a business owner, and we try to help them see it a little more clearly. Then we leave the decisions with them.

Over the past decade we have worked with retailers along Jalan Trus, food operators in Kulai, small professional services firms in Skudai, and a quiet range of other owners who wanted a steady presence rather than a periodic report. Our longest client relationships have run for seven or eight years. That is not something we engineered — it is just what happens when the work is honest and the pace is patient.

Today Setia Bina offers three services: a single-session review for owners who want an outside perspective, a five-week continuity planning process for those preparing their business for changes ahead, and a twelve-month advisory arrangement for owners who want someone in their corner over the long term. All three are priced clearly, scoped honestly, and offered without pressure.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Client Confidentiality

Everything discussed in our sessions stays between us. We do not share client details, business information, or engagement histories with any third party.

Independent Advice

We hold no referral arrangements with software providers, lenders, or other service firms. Our recommendations reflect only what we think is useful to you.

Written Scope Before We Begin

Every engagement starts with a short written agreement that sets out what is included, what is not, and what happens at the end. No surprises.

Plain Language Throughout

We do not use jargon to sound authoritative. If we cannot explain something clearly, that is our problem to solve, not yours to interpret.

Regular Review of Our Own Work

We revisit our plans and summaries with clients to see what has held up and what has not. Advice that does not connect to real conditions is not useful advice.

Data Handled with Care

Client documents and records are stored securely and accessed only by those directly involved in your engagement. We follow PDPA requirements without exception.

Our Approach

What we value, and why it matters in consulting

Small business consulting in Malaysia has a reputation for over-promising. We hear from owners who have paid for strategic plans that sat untouched, or engaged advisors who disappeared after the first deliverable. Setia Bina was partly built as a response to that experience.

Our view is that consulting is most useful when it is quiet and continuous. A business that receives a single report and is then left to interpret it alone has not been well served. What owners need more often is someone who knows their business well enough to ask the right question at the right moment — and who is still around six months later when the question shifts.

We work with small businesses across Johor Bahru and the wider Johor region. Our clients include sole proprietors, family-run operations, and small limited companies with teams of two to twenty. We do not work with large corporations or with businesses seeking venture funding. Our focus is the owner who needs considered, affordable advisory support delivered personally.

Business consulting for small businesses in Johor Bahru draws on a particular knowledge of local conditions: SSM registration requirements, the seasonal rhythms of the Johor economy, typical staffing challenges in the service sector, and the regulatory environment for small operators. That local grounding is part of what Setia Bina offers that a regional or international consulting firm cannot.
